Passport Applications and Renewals
Applying for a U.S. passport while outside the United States is a different process from applying for a U.S. passport while inside the United States. Although the application forms, supporting documentation, fees and finished products are the same everywhere, each U.S. embassy and consulate has different procedures for submitting and processing your final documents. Listed below is information you should know when applying for a U.S. passport at U.S. Embassy Monrovia.
Please bring your most recent passport for renewals, or citizenship documentation for first-time applicants. Citizenship documentation is your original naturalization or U.S. birth certificate. If you are changing your name on a passport, you must bring the original marriage certificate or legal court documents with you.
- Please bring the appropriate passport fees with you.
Please bring two photographs that meet all U.S. passport photo requirements. They must be 2"x 2" in size, with a white background. In the photo, your ears and hairline must be showing and you must be facing forward.
- If applying for a passport for a minor child under the age of 16, both parents must be present to sign the application. If one parent cannot be present at the Embassy, a notarized DS-3053 Statement of Consent may be submitted in lieu of a personal appearance.
U.S. Citizens can have additional pages inserted in their current, valid passport for a fee. The DS-4085 Application for Additional Visa Pages is available at the Consular Section, or you may fill the form out ahead of time.
To receive additional pages, your passport must have a photo-digitized image and other enhanced security features. If you have an older passport without a photo-digitized image, you will need to apply to renew your passport.
Lost, Damaged or Stolen Passports
If your passport has been lost, damaged or stolen, please report it to the American Embassy and Liberian National Police as soon as possible. You will need to complete the DS-64 Statement Regarding Lost or Stolen Passport, in advance or at the Consular Section, and follow the instructions above for renewing your passport.
