Economic and Commercial Services

U. S. Embassy Monrovia's Economic and Commercial Section

The Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia is responsible for the execution of a wide range of economic and commercial activities. These activities include:

  • Providing information and policy advice to the Ambassador and to the U. S. Department of State;

  • Compiling economic reports that assist public and private sector entities make informed commercial and economic decisions;

  • Interacting with the Liberian government, the private sector, and other stakeholders on bilateral and multilateral finance, investment, trade, economic growth, good governance, environmental and social issues;

  • Developing commercial ties between U. S. and Liberian businesses;

  • Coordinating with the Department of Commerce offices in Dakar and Abidjan, the U. S. Department of Agriculture Regional Office in Lagos, and other U. S. government agencies with interests or activities in Liberia.

- Sanctions are Not an Impediment to -

UN and U.S. sanctions on Liberian diamonds and timber have been lifted.  Along with a general arms embargo, the only sanctions still in place affect some individuals who remain subject to travel bans and assets freezes maintained by the UN and by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)..Complete text
