United States to Begin the Rehabilitation of Five
County Administration Buildings
The United States Government, acting through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing 5 grants to support the rehabilitation and renovation of 5 County Administration Buildings in Grand Bassa, Bomi, Lofa, Sinoe, and Maryland counties in Liberia. The grants will be administered under the USAID-funded Liberia Community Infrastructure Program (LCIP) which has been operating in Liberia since 2004.
This grant to the Ministry of Internal Affairs reflects the sustained commitment of the US Government to support the Government of Liberia’s ongoing efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate vital national infrastructure. In 2003 and 2004, LCIP rehabilitated 5 County Administration Buildings in Sanniquellie, Gbanga, Grand Gedeh, Grand Cape Mount, and Bopolo counties.
It is expected that President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, USAID Acting Mission Director Sharon Pauling, Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, Julie Duncan-Cassells, and LCIP staff will participate in a ground breaking ceremony during the Independence Day Celebrations in Buchanan on Wednesday and Thursday. The Grand Bassa Administration Building is the first to undergo rehabilitation in 2007.
The Grand Bassa County Administration building, like many other county administration buildings includes offices to be used for standard county administration functions, such as the Superintendents Office, Magistrate Court, City Mayor, County Attorney’s Office, National Police, Bureau of National Investigation Office, Circuit Court Office, Prison, Ministry of Gender, Assistant Superintendent for Development, Lands Mines and Energy, Post and Telecommunications, County Inspectors, Land Commissioners and an Immigration office.
A Liberian construction company, Triple W, was selected for award of the contract for this major renovation activity through a tendering process. Architecture and Engineering services for the project have been provided by another Liberian company, Architects Construction Consultants. LCIP is implemented and managed by DAI, a US based management consulting company working under contract to USAID.
Other major infrastructure reconstruction projects currently supported by LCIP include renovation of the Capitol Building, Ministry of Public Works Compound, Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute, and the rehabilitation of the Buchanan-Cestos-Greenville road.
